At Jewart's we develop children's talents, one trick at a time. The long history of great gymnastics in Pittsburgh started here in the North Hills at Jewart's Gymnastics in 1969. For over 40 years, Jewart's is the place where every child is a star. From our littlest pre-school gymnasts, to our advanced competitors, we pride ourselves in giving each student the special attention they need to prepare them for a world of possibilities.

The foundation of skills and fitness that we provide at Jewart's Gymnastics sets children on a path for learning and achievement. While gymnastics training builds strength, coordination and flexibility, our training methods teach children to become better listeners, to learn to focus and to develop good work habits. Gymnastics training develops self-confidence and self-motivation. Our students are the movers and shakers in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. That's why we truly believe that gymnastics is the best investment you will ever make for your child's future.

With three gyms competing at once, teams from all over the country, and a special opening ceremony, this was definitely an "experience" the girls will not soon forget.  The opening ceremony this year featured a performance from two special olympics gymnasts which was very moving and a live "boy band" that stuck around after to sign autographs.  Over 15 Northstars represented the team and enjoyed the fun!

    Highlights

**The weekend started with the APO's who racked up the medals!  Jess Goldstein was AA champion, both Abrianna Fagan and Brianna Gabriel were second in the gold division, and Gabrielle Smith was third in the platnium division.

**Then came the 9's who were "in the game", competing against a lot of top teams.  We came just short of a 3rd place team plaque, finishing 4th with by far their best team score yet!  We finally broke into the 26's as a team on beam and had three no fall routines from Ali Sullivan, Annie Haywood, and Leah Elmore.

**Carlena Bonomi placed in the AA and scored a 9.4 to take 2nd place on vault.

**Then came the 8's who broke into the 109's and were 2nd place team!  Congratulations to AA champions Taylor Johnson and Alicia Hinnebusch and beam champion Rachel Hornung.

**Next came the 10'sCaroline Houston did her double back for the first time on floor and stuck her front front vault scoring an impressive 9.5Tiara Chadran also had her best level 10 meet yet.  She had just one fall and almost reached her goal of a 36.  Way to go T!  Berger also catching her ginger was a great highlight!

**Lastly, on Sunday evening the level 7's competed. They were impressive on floor scoring a 29.1 as a team!  If you do the math this is above a 9.6 average!  Vanessa Pletz, Catie Groom, and Sam Boris were the floor champions. Vanessa continues on her role of 1st place AA- keep it up Nessy!

  • Northstars Sweep Tri-State Team Championships!

For the first time ever, the Pittsburgh Northstars won the Open Division of the Tri-State Championships! The excitement started with Tori Bianco's awesome bar routine and led right into Tiara's as she gets her first 9 on bars as a level 10.  The excitement kept building as they went 4 for 5 on beam achieving a 27 as a team and winning beam!  It was great to see Berger make beam and floor.  And great to see Caroline make her beam and a super front-front vault!  Tasha Harms did her best floor routine ever and counted with the teams second highest score of 8.9!! Final results were: Pittsburgh Northstars 106.525, Arcadia 105.925 and Gym Dandys 105. 65. As you can see from the scores those little .1 mistakes can make a big difference.

  • Happy Anniversary, Kamelia.
January 2012 marks the tenth anniversary coaching at Jewart’s for our fantastic rhythmic coach. It’s hard to believe she has given us such amazing experiences: Hosting our first rhythmic meet at LaRoche complete with international competitors, attending her wedding in Bulgaria, and building our new gym for our rhythmic team. Kamelia’s girls have continued to represent the Northstars at the highest level for states, regionals and nationals. Her exciting addition last year of a high level “Group” team is really a feather in her cap. We wish her continued success.

  • 2012 Steel City Invitational
The competitive season began with the 2012 Steel City Invitational. This year we had 383 entries for girls and 191 for the boys. It was the home opener for the Northstars as we played host to 20 girls teams and 16 boys teams. The gym looked great decked out in black and gold. “Black and Yellow” by local rapper, Wiz Kalifa’s was the perfect background music as the gymnasts entered the gym. Thanks to the Parent’s Club for helping us to get bleachers for the gym. It really makes the gym look professional. Both Northstar boys and girls won their share of medals. Congratulations to all of our winners and thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time to make this such a special event. Check the website for individual places.
  • Come Walk in the Woods. On National Service Day we opened our new walking trail once again. Just go behind the team gym and walk through the ropes course to find the loop through the beautiful leaves. Hurry! The sunsets will be coming earlier, so get out in the fresh air if the weather allows.
