TELL ME MORE ABOUT EXPERIENTIAL BASED LEARNING

"Always in the big woods when you leave familiar ground and step off alone into a new place there will be, along with the feelings of curiosity and excitement, a little nagging of dread. It is the fear of the Unknown. What you are doing is exploring. You are undertaking the first experience, not of the place, but of yourself in that place. …Nobody can discover the world for anybody else. "
Wendell Berry

"Tell me, and I will forget; Show me, and I may remember; involve me and I will understand."

Experts explain it this way: "Experiential education is a process through which a learner constructs knowledge, skill and value from direct experiences."

What is a ropes course?
What began as the Outward Bound movement in England, in the 1970's turned into Project Adventure here in the United States in the 1980's. We welcome you to our low ropes adventure course, one of the fastest growing segments of education. Climb, swing, hang. Solve, encourage, explore. With a partner, with a group, or on your own. Learn, grow, experience. Have fun!

A low ropes course consists of an obstacle course of sorts, made of cables, ropes, logs and tires suspended through trees, to provide bridges to cross and problems to solve for individuals and groups. In an imaginative story of daring and adventure, the facilitator challenges the group to perform physical tasks that involve communication, trust and teamwork. Can you do it? Yes, you can!!!

How does team building happen?
Ideal for scout groups, athletic teams and companies where building teamwork is essential, the challenges of a ropes course is fun, experiential based learning for kids of all ages. In a time when entertainment and extra time are spent on the computer, adventure based education takes you outdoors, with real people, solving real problems. It's new! It's exciting! A facilitator is your guide on a ropes course. Through the directing and debriefing component of the activity, which sets up and follows each challenge, groups learn about each other, about working together and about the joy of teamwork. Challenges are problems for the group to solve. For the individual, self-discovery is a highlight of each adventure.

How long is a session?
Programs can be as short as 60 minutes (one or two challenges) to an all-day session. (6 hours). You can even camp out if you choose. Each program is custom made for individual groups depending on the goals and objectives. The low ropes course is also fun for families to play together and for parties to explore outdoor challenges and games that are tailor made for individual ages and abilities.

What are some of the values of participation?
The values of physical educational activities on a ropes course closely mirrors gymnastics activities and climbing. New challenges involving balance, perceived risk and coordination lead the learner to involve new patterns of movement that provide balance, timing and kinesthetic awareness. Success builds esteem and confidence. In addition, adventure based education builds strong social skills. Communication, trust, and leadership are enhanced with each challenge.

Let us take you into a magical world of fantasy and adventure. Let your imagination soar with possibilities of heroic feats and timely rescues. Enjoy a wholesome activity in the beautiful woodland forest surrounding our Wildwood Adventure Course.
